The Leaders of DBFW

Deaf pastor Ronnie King is the founder of DBFW. He is the pastor of the New Testament Deaf Baptist church in Tucson, Arizona. 

Ronnie was born in Germany while his father served in the U.S. Army, and shortly thereafter, his family was moved to Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX. At the age of 10, he accepted Christ Jesus as his personal Savior while living in Fabens, TX. He graduated from the New Mexico School for the Deaf in 1979. 

Carol was born and raised in Tucson, Arizona, and graduated from Sahuaro High School in 1979. 

We began attending Southwest Collegiate Institute for the Deaf in Big Spring, Texas, where we met. We were married in 1982. At the age of 24, Carol accepted Christ Jesus as her personal Savior during her time at college in Texas.

We lived for many years raising and supporting our family, but all the while, God was dealing with us about serving the Lord. We finally surrendered and rededicated our lives to the Lord. God eventually led us to work in a deaf ministry at Desert Spring Baptist Church. While serving there for four wonderful years,  God placed upon us the burden to start a deaf church. In 2005, the Quail Run Deaf Baptist Church was established and was operating for nineteen and a half years. During this time, Ronnie attended Bible College and graduated in 2007. There, he received a Doctor of Divinity in Andersonville, Tennessee, in 2022. As God continued to work, He placed upon us a burden to move to New Testament Baptist Church as a deaf ministry, and the “Deaf Church” at New Testament Baptist Church was established on January 7, 2024.

We are blessed with three wonderful children who are faithfully serving the Lord, and have twelve awesome grandchildren as well.  

The DBFW assistant is Deaf pastor Mike Remington, the pastor of the Signs of Life Baptist Church in Phoenix, Arizona.

Michael Remington was born deaf in Boulder, Colorado February 12, 1965. He grew up in a Christian family and attended church. His parents knew something was different about Mike but couldn’t figure out what. Doctors thought he was hyperactive or mentally retarded, his mom rejected both. When he started kindergarten, his teacher noticed the problem, tested him, and figured out he was deaf and had him see a school audiologist who confirmed he was profoundly deaf. Michael got hearing aids as a result. Though hearing aids didn’t help him hear others much, they helped others notice he was deaf.  At age 6, his Sunday School teacher noticed and realized he wasn’t hearing in class and ordered a book from the Bill Rice Ranch on how Cathy Rice led her deaf daughter to the Lord. Using the same method, his S.S. teacher used flannel graph pictures and made sure to face in his direction when she talked so he could read her lips. For the first time in his life, Michael understood the baby celebrated at Christmas is the same guy, Jesus, who died on the cross, and that Jesus died to pay for sins. He also understood for the first time what sin was and asked Jesus to save him from his sins that Sunday morning, leading to a wonderful peace in his heart.

Michael often talked about Jesus with friends but got more serious at age 11 when he and his sister did a backyard Bible club for a couple of years as well as VBS both in their home church and with a group for Navajo kids in Arizona. He began teaching Bible stories at age 12 and preached for the first time at age 13 on the Navajo Reservation.

While getting a Bachelor of Science Degree at N.T.I.D./R.I.T. in Rochester N.Y., Michael noticed that many of the other deaf students didn’t know about Salvation in Jesus Christ, so he began handing out tracts and talking with deaf and hearing students about the one way to heaven through Jesus Christ. He also started attending First Bible Baptist Church of North Greece, N.Y.  

After graduating from R.I.T., Michael went home to Longmont, Colorado, and became the deaf Sunday School teacher at Faith Baptist Church in Longmont. As he taught and visited the deaf to expand the deaf ministry, the deaf kept calling him Pastor or asking if he was the Deaf Pastor there. This burdened Mike to go to College to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in Theology from Trinity Baptist College in Jacksonville, FL. 

Mike met the father of his future wife, Amy Diley, while attending Trinity Baptist College.

Amy and Mike got married in Sept. of 1991 and moved to Phoenix, AZ, where they started Signs of Life Baptist Church also in Sept. of 1991. From the start, they found many deaf with addiction and rebellion problems. Unable to find a good rehabilitation program that used the Bible and was appropriate for the deaf, the Lord burdened them to start Remington Deaf Ranch to help deaf youth with addiction and rebellion problems. Mike also continued Pastoring Signs of Life Baptist Church, ran the Rehab program, and taught homeschooling to their kids.

In 2010 Mike was invited to go to Benin, Africa, to facilitate a Deaf Camp. Forty-nine deaf people asked Jesus to forgive them of their sins and be their personal Savior.  Africa Deaf Camp is now 3 Deaf Camps, a Hearing VBS, and teaches three weeks of Bible College for Deaf and Deaf Workers in Benin and several West African nations.
